Okay.
Foreign people.
Let me explain to you something that is often mixed up.
A huge dilemma.
The difference between Holland and The Netherlands.
This is actually quite easy to explain. Let's begin. The Netherlands is divided up into 12 provinces, you also have the Dutch Antilles somewhere in the Caribbean but don't mind those, not important. Holland is only a term for 2 of those provinces.
See that extremely serious looking red circle that surrounds the yellowish area and the pinkish/reddish area? That is Noord Holland (North Holland), where you can find Amsterdam, and Zuid Holland (South Holland), where you can find The Hague (Den Haag). Together they are Holland.
So basically Holland is only a part of The Netherlands. It's provinces versus country. I hope I cleared the air a little and that you found this interesting or educational or whatever.
Love, Me
Just a girl from The Netherlands that's learning to understand fashion and make-up and shares her findings. Who loves books and movies and writes about it. Photography and as many languages as possible are things I'm also trying to master. Basically, just sharing my life and the lessons I learn along the way. (Oh, and I might be able to tell you some educational stuff, sounds exciting. Note the sarcasm.)

Winter is coming!
You see what I did there? What's up Game of Thrones reference. But seriously, it is starting to get a lot colder and before you know it winter will arrive. I don't know about where you live, but here in The Netherlands it already feels like winter. Okay, that's not so very surprising because we generally have bad weather here. Let me clarify. You know how people always say that in the U.K. it's always cold and it constantly rains? That may be a little exaggerated, but just picture it. Well, right across the Canal is my tiny little homeland that pretty much has the same weather, but we have colder winters. Not fair. :'( (The summers can be pretty nice though, don't get me wrong.)
Anyway. I didn't come here to talk about the weather. I came here to talk about the fashion trends for this winter! Before I do, I need to point out that you always have to wear clothes that you feel good in and if you can't find yourself in the trends, don't follow them. Be your own trendsetter. Whilst I don't follow them all the time either, I do like to read about it and draw inspiration from it. So, now that is all spoken for. Let's discuss some things! (FYI, I just picked some of my favourites and dislikes. It think you understand that it is impossible to cover everything.)
1. Poncho's; OMG, I'm so excited about this one! I absolutely love, love, love poncho's. They're just so comfortable and easy to style. Let me tell you a little secret: I always have at least one poncho hidden somewhere. I mean, even though they're the biggest don'ts sometimes, I still can't keep myself from loving them. I know that poncho's have been a winter trend for a while now, but I still get very excited about it! This season it's a great thing to have in your closet!
2. Over-sized jackets/coats; This is one I'm not really sure about. While I like almost everything over-sized, I think this one might come to bite me in the ass. Seeing as these coats can hide your figure, it might make you look bigger than you are. I think it's smart to wear one with some kind of sash so you can accentuate your waist.
3. Diamond/checkered patterns, AGAIN; Don't really have much to say about this. I like diamond and checkered patterns and I think this trend might take over the world someday. I think I'm going to sign up for Doomsday Preppers immediately.
4. Lace-up boots; It's fashionable this winter to wear high lace-up boots. Personally, I love these kinds of boots. I just think they have a certain 'coolness' over them.
5. The invasion of fur; Fake or real. A coat, a shawl, a vest or a cape. Red, brown, black. It doesn't matter. Fur is huge this winter. I'm against real fur, but I have no problem with the fakes. And I get the fashion-obsession.
6. Black is back!; While natural colours and deepred, like wine, are big this winter, black also comes peeking around the corner. I kind of feel like black is always a good colour to wear, just because it matches basically everything, but it's nice to know that the fashion experts agree with me, for this winter at least.
7. Dressing like a BOSS; And this one is pretty literal. Dressing in an almost manly way with a feminine touch. Jackets, suits and that kind of stuff. I don't really have an opinion about this one. Some people look really good in this kind of clothing, but I can't pull this one off. But okay.
8. Wearable art; Wearing clothing with all kinds of art, sometimes even inspired by famous works, have also worked their way to the top. Dark or just plain cheerful, wearable art is a thing. I quite like this one, as long as you don't overdo it.
That was it, guys! I hope you liked this little fashion post. If you think I forgot a major trend, like turtlenecks ^.^, don't hesitate to leave a comment!

First Post!!!
Hello everybody!
So, the first post. It kind of feels like an initiation. Actually, it sort of is. Well, since this is my first post, I'd like to tell you something about me.
My name is Britt and I'm 16 years old. I live in The Netherlands. You know, that little country in western Europe where parts of the land are way below sea level. Where everyone rides bikes and wears clogs. The country of cheese, tulips and windmills. A lot of those things are just stereotypes, but it'll probably help to jog your memory about your geography class from two years ago.
I always was the girl that didn't understand fashion and make-up, but slowly but surely I'm starting to learn things about this world and I am planning to share my new findings on all kinds of topics with you.
When I'm not at school, I like to relax. For me that means reading a book or watching a movie/series. I would love to write some reviews on things I've read or seen. So be prepared!
A while ago, I also picked up photography which I haven't completely mastered yet, but hey, my blog is called "Britt is learning" for a reason.
Also, I'm really into learning languages and I'm trying to master as many as I can. So, if anyone has any questions I might be able to answer some.
Yeah...I think that's it for this first post. You got to know me a little better and I figured out how to post something. Achievement of the day!
Love, Me
P.S. Because I'm not a native speaker of the English language I might make some mistakes in my writing. Please don't hate me for it! (I don't mind feedback on it though, as long as you stay nice.) :)
